A celebration of those who give their time and enthusiasm for grass roots junior golf: volunteers, PGA Professionals, junior organisers, schoolteachers and local authority officers, took place at Wentworth Club during the Golf Foundation President’s Awards on Wednesday (23rd May).

Thirty children from local schools met Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie during Golf Live; part of a Golf Foundation Tri-Golf festival that showcased the excellent progress of ‘HSBC Golf Roots’ in schools.

Inspirational golf volunteers Marlan Cox (left) and Jim Pocknell (right) have been chosen as Olympic torchbearers and will help to carry the flame through their communities on its relay round the UK.

Over 4000 women and girls were encouraged to start and stay in golf last year, thanks to a special grant for county activities – that’s up by more than 1000 on the previous year.
